About RCCS

At Royal Canadian Christian School, our Christ-centered approach to education strives to equip students for life as citizens of God’s Kingdom. Our commitment to our school’s mission and values stem from our school motto:

We love because he first loved us (1 John 4:19)

MISSION

To educate and care for students, helping them learn about God so that they can better worship Him. We want our students to positively affect society by reflecting Christ in their lives.

To provide parents the option to provide their children with an education that is directed by God’s living Word and truth.

To advance education by operating a Christian school with the underlying philosophy and viewpoint that Christ is Lord of all.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

This statement expresses the essential Christian convictions of our school.

We believe that God is a Triune God – One God eternally existing in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

We believe that man is created, male and female, in the image of God and that although God created humanity in His image with the ability to live perfectly for His glory, man disobeyed God. Because of this original disobedience, every individual is a sinner by nature and does himself practice sin. Man is thus alienated from God. All are sinners, and sin is a condition that affects every relationship.

We believe that because all people are sinners and have lost their ability to live perfectly, they cannot enter Heaven and eternal life with God through their own deeds.

We believe that it is solely by God’s grace, expressed through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross and the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead that true life and freedom are available. Through his death on the cross, Jesus paid the price for the sins of those who believe in Him. Through his perfect life, his righteousness is credited to all believers. Through faith in Him, we have forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Through the resurrection of Jesus, death has been defeated.

We believe that all of the world is a part of God’s creation and He is sovereign over and in all things and that every academic subject must be taught and interpreted from a Biblical perspective. Jesus is the Word incarnate, the Redeemer, and the King, and in Him, all things are held together.

We believe that the Holy Bible is the divine, inspired, and infallible Word of God by which we understand God, His created reality, the Fall, salvation, and God’s will for our lives. The Bible is to be interpreted as a unified whole. It is the only rule of authority for all matters of faith and obedience.

We believe that a most consistent and meaningful education will result when the home, the school, and the church are in agreement on the basic concepts of life. The home has the primary responsibility for the children and is the children’s primary source of nurture and guidance. The school exists to assist the home in its role of instruction. The Christian parent, as a member of the body of Christ, seeks for the family growth in faith and practice with regular and active involvement in a local Christian church.

We are called as Christians to grow in maturity in Jesus Christ, to be knowledgeable about our faith, to stand firm in our convictions, to live as servants in community, and work toward reconciling all things and relationships to Jesus Christ.

OUR STORY

The call to establish Royal Canadian Christian School in September 2024 is the result of God’s work in gathering committed Christians in leadership, administrative and teaching positions in Royal Canadian College. Through prayer and supplication, the school authority and leadership came to a decision that in order to serve the Lord and community fully, a major change from our current model to a Christian one was the clear choice. The path to becoming a Christian school has been long and fruitful but the priority has always been first and foremost, that all students received the best care and education when enrolled in our school. This can be attributed to our non-profit model since our inception. Here are some significant milestones:

1989

Royal Canadian College (RCC) was founded in January 1989 and registered as a non-profit society under the Society Act of British Columbia. The school authority, Royal Canadian College Society, is governed by a Board of Directors. The college functioned primarily as an English as a Second Language (ESL) institution at its original campus at Inverness Street in Vancouver.

1990

A second campus was opened in September 1990 at 2236 West 12th Avenue in Vancouver. At the new location, RCC started offering a high school academic program (Grades 8-12) to local and international students, soon after being certified by the British Columbia Ministry of Education.

The second campus originally occupied half of the building at 2236 West 12th Avenue, but expanded to occupy the entire building by May 1991. The school then closed the original campus at Inverness Street and consolidated all programs at the new campus. Throughout the 1990s, RCC experienced a steady growth in the student population and the spectrum of courses offered to ESL and high school students.

2002

In early 2002, Royal Canadian College Society purchased a property at 8610 Ash Street in Vancouver. After extensive renovations to the building located within the property, in May 2002, RCC closed the old campus on West 12th Avenue and moved to its current campus on Ash Street.

2009

Plans for developing the RCC campus led to an expansion to improve the physical assets of the school and to allow for further growth in programming. In 2009, RCC obtained a building permit to construct a 2 storey 5,389 sq. ft. building on the existing campus grounds.

2012

The new building was completed in September 2012 and featured additional classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, common area and recreational space for students. Extensive renovations to the campus grounds resulted in additional car and bicycle parking spaces, and a brand new outdoor multi-use sport court designed for basketball, volleyball and other related sports.

2024

In consultations with leaders in Christian education, the school authority of RCC developed a strategic plan which would see a major change in identity. Royal Canadian College would become Royal Canadian Christian School and expand to include elementary school programming. To accommodate a younger student population, renovations to the existing school building and the installation of a playground will be completed before September 2024.
